Friday Five
Friday, 27 June 2003 19:511. How are you planning to spend the summer?
Work, work, work and maybe the occasional day off. Know it sounds bad not taking another week off until September then October/November but somebody needs to work so those with children can take time off during the school summer holidays and I have no reason to need to take much time off for the next 2 and a half months.
2. What was your first summer job?
Didn't have a summer job, I just started work after I left school in the summer of '82.
3. If you could go anywhere this summer, where would you go?
Somewhere nice and peaceful and less hot and sticky than it is here now. (I'm not a summer person).
4. What was your worst vacation ever?
A weekend away in York a few years ago. I'd booked 2 weekends away that autumn before my gran became really ill. I went to York but wasn't happy being away knowing that she could die virtually at any time, as it was I think it was then that her sister died. I cancelled the second weekend away for a fortnight later (which would have included my birthday) and stayed home, gran died the day before my birthday and I spent my birthday helping mum contacting relatives. That probably goes down as the worst birthday too.
5. What was your best vacation ever?
Probably the holidays we had in Newquay in Cornwall may years ago. Mum and Dad were happy to let us play on the beach and relax most of the time, not drag up around stuff they were interested in which is what was happening by the time I was in my teens. The last real holiday I had away with my parents and sister was in the spring of 1980 then a weekend away in Cardiff the next year. After that I stopped going away with them as our interests differed so much and I didn't go away on holiday again until I had a weekend in Yorkshire with Dad and my sister when my sister was just about finishing university up there in 1990.
