I came up with my original set of images with the stargate background when I was messing around with icons just over two years ago, I've got various icons in 'the set' now, blocks and a couple of wallpapers too then recently I discovered how to make animated gifs.
Oh, it took me *so* long to figure out how to do animated stuff. Untill a tutorial showed op on a LJ-comm :D (I use Gimp, so tuts aren't that widely available)
I could crop and resize gifs (thanks to my web host's site) but making animations from scratch was a mystery to me until I saw mention of UnFREEz on an icon community.
It's fairly basic but it works (once I've edited the images with my scanner software then turned them into gifs using Paint).
Heh. I wanted to make icons and stuff too, but I don't have the money for a full legal version of PhotoShop or the like. Then I found www.gimp.org after some googling. It's similar to PS, but best of all, it's FREE! :D You can dl'd directly from the site, no strings attached (no adds, no sign-ups, nothing!) They also have basic tutorials onsite. And there are already lj-comms for resources and stuff, so my own icons lately look like they're made by PS. Whee! (One of my only 2 public posts is an icon-post, take a look if you want. *g*)
